City's Safety Record Earns Silver Medal

Prineville, Oregon - April 6, 2016

The City of Prineville was awarded a Silver Medal for it’s employee safety record during the 2014/2015 year by the League of Oregon Cities and CityCounty Insurance Services (CIS).

Member-owned and governed, CIS is available only to the members of the League of Oregon Cities and the Association of Oregon Counties. CIS brings its members together to meet the unique risk management and financing needs of local public entities, offering Workers’ Compensation, Property, Liability and Employee Benefits.

The bench mark for a city to qualify for a Silver Medal is to amass at least 55,000 total work hours before a “loss time injury” occurs to an employee.

Mary Puddy, Prineville’s Human Resources and Risk Manager, has worked hard to ensure safety is top-of-mind with all city employees. “Our employees think Safety First and it shows! We would not be eligible for these awards without the whole team working their jobs in a safe and efficient manner.” CIS uses a specific formula, developed by Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), to determine a Total Time Loss Index rating for both private sector and public sector employers. The formula ensures that, regardless of size, every member organization is rated fairly.

“I am so proud of our employees. We have received either the gold or silver award for several years now. What that tells the citizens of Prineville is that our employees are very conscientious about safety,” said Betty Roppe, Mayor of Prineville.
