911 and Communications

The Prineville Police Department Communications Center is the PSAP (Public Safety
Answering Point) for Crook County. All 911 calls for the Crook County area are routed
to the Communications Center and are handled by fully trained and certified telecommunicators.
Telecommunicators also dispatch for all Law Enforcement Agencies in Crook County to include,
Prineville Police Department, Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Prineville Fire Department and
some dispatching for Oregon State Police, BLM and Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers.

Telecommunicators for the Prineville Police Department are fully certified by the Department
of Public Safety Standards and Training in both Telecommunications/Law Enforcement Dispatch
and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD). Telecommunicators must then re-certify on a yearly basis.
The communications center is under direction of the Cheif of Police with the daily operations
managed by the Communications Director. The Dispatch staff consists of 7 full time dispatch
positions and the Communications Director.
The number of calls for service handled by the Dispatch Center for 2005 was 28,530 with calls
for service per dispatcher at 3,804. Staffing in 2005 was 6 full time dispatchers, 1 part-time
dispatcher and the Communications Director.
