Water Shortage -- Residents Can Resume Normal Water Usage
Posted: 05/17/2007 @ 9:45 AM
by: James Wilson
As of Thursday, May 17th, 2007, repair work has been completed on two of the downed wells, and the third will be repaired later tonight. At this time, residents can return to normal water usage, and resume irrigation. We ask that residents continue to use the odd/even watering schedule, where houses with odd house numbers water on odd days of the month, and residents with even numbered houses water on even days. The odd/even schedule helps prevent water "spikes" where abnormally high consumption can occur from too many people watering on the same day.
The City is continuing efforts to expand the water system to meet increased demands, and is hopeful that an additional water well will be brought online soon which will add to the production capacity of the system and prevent a future situation of this nature. Once again, we would like to thank residents for their understanding of this situation, and the steps they took to conserve water during this event. For more information regarding the City's odd/even watering schedule, and other water conservation tips, please see the following brochure.

Potential Water Shortage
Posted: 05/15/07 @ 16:15
by: James Wilson
On Tuesday, May 15, 2007, The City of Prineville Municipal Water System experienced a series of pump failures which has limited the pumping capability of several of the City’s water wells. These faults, coupled with the seasonal high demand for water, could cause the City’s water supply to reach a critical level, if consumption is not immediately reduced.
Effective immediately, all Citizens are asked to refrain from using municipal water for irrigation and to limit their water consumption to domestic uses only. Additionally, some residents may experience cloudy water. This water has been determined safe to drink through testing. However, if concerns remain, boiling water is an effective method of ensuring that water is safe to drink.
Additional updates will be posted on this website as soon as they are available, and City crews are working 24-hours a day to correct this situation. If you have further questions, please call our office at 447-5627. This number will be staffed until 11pm tonight and once again after 8am on Wednesday.
